STEFAN NENOV
Stefan Nenov is an artist born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in 1978.
He studied The National Academy of Arts - Bulgaria. BA - Sculpture & Wood carving ( 2004) and MA Printmaking (2007).
Stefan's work is focused on sculpture and wood is his primary medium. Spending many years dealing with period carving and restoration, having a wide range of clients, including commissions for The National Trust, he has developed his technique to achieve high realistic representation in his sculptures.
The subjects of his artworks vary, but Stefan always aims to reflect the identity of nowadays society. He accepts his ideas as an allegorical narrative of how contemporary man has been socially constructed.
Wood is the most unique sculpture material for the artist. The fact it has been something alive and later transformed into a piece of art reminds him of reincarnation. While working in wood, Stefan aims to create curious to our reality objects with the contents, which evoke amazement. That includes a surreal transformation of forms, implementing new meanings and contemporary archetypal symbols of human identity. Capturing a unique moment or action is another aspect of his art.
Some of his highest career points include selection for a Solo show at Earnest&Young by a panel of Tate Modern and E&Y, Exhibiting at Mall Galleries - Winner of Alfred Daniels Award at The RBA Annual Exhibition , The Piano-Sculpture project exhibited in Canary Wharf, many other shows in UK and Europe. He has works commissioned by Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Centre for World Culture King Abdulazis, Saudi Arabia. Some of the Stefan's publications to mention are his appearance on Channel 4, Four Rooms and TimeOut.
Along with the indoor sculptures Stefan has been participating in many Sculpture Symposiums in The UK, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece and others.
